The History of the Exchange between Holland and Saga
During the 17th century, Arita ware was shipped to the rest of the world by the influential Dutch East India Company, and during the late Edo period and the Meiji Restoration the latest Western science and technology were introduced to Japan by Holland. In recent years there has been exchange between Dutch design and Saga/Arita manufacturers, as well as sports and cultural exchange. Here, learn about the history of exchange between Saga and the Netherlands and find out more about this connection, which started in the 17th century and will continue into the future.
“1616/arita japan” and “2016/,” the contemporary Arita ware brands created through collaboration with leading Dutch and European designers, will be on display. (Available for purchase)
World-class Towns on the Water
Both the Netherlands and Saga share the trait of being flat areas with a history of reclaiming land from the sea, making the Netherlands a “far away country that feels very close.” Learn about the similarities and differences of Holland and Saga through visualizations of these towns on the water.
